Water Crisis in Gaza

Project type

Dr. Luhmann

Water the Essential Resource: Water the Essential Resource was one of the most formative classes I have taken during my time at Wheaton. The core of this class is twofold. Objective one is to attain a scientific understanding of geological fluvial morphology. objective two is to learn about water pollution and environmental inequity. One of the projects that we were tasked with was to group up with a partner and write about resource inequality. My partner and I chose to write about water resources in the Gaza Strip. Diving into the historical and modern context of this region opened my eyes to the horrors the people of Gaza face every day. There is no access to clean water and thus hundreds of Women, Children, and Men die from waterborne illnesses every year. It was this group assignment that strengthened and formed my vocational conviction of advocacy. Advocacy goes far beyond societal ills. For someone to be truly loved and truly supported all needs both emotional, spiritual, and physical must be met. For Race and Justice, a core component of the class was working with other students in analyzing text and directly applying it to modern life. I credit Race and Justice for giving me tangible channels and means of acquiring knowledge on advocacy and points of inequity.
